Cotton Trust Protocol hits milestone

The data it has released this week also indicates that a total of some 11 million units of finished products have been tracked through its Protocol Consumption Management Solution (PCMS). This traceability system uses digital tools, including blockchain, to track Cotton Trust Protocol cotton, and American-grown cotton, at every stage of the supply chain in near real time, it said. This requires that all members of the supply chain – including mills and manufacturers – to be a member of the programme.
“Providing transparency through the supply chain is one of the Trust Protocol’s core premises and we’re proud to be the world’s first sustainable cotton fibre program to offer its members article-level transparency,” commented Cotton Trust Protocol president, Dr Gary Adams.
The Trust Protocol promotes and measures improvement in six main sustainability metrics: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency.
