Clean manufacturing confirmation for The Lycra Company

The maker of Lycra, Coolmax and Thermolite branded fibres can now boast that three of its factories rank within the top quartile of the Higg facility modules for environmental impacts, known as the Higg FEM, and two have achieved the same high scores for the Higg’s Social & Labour Module for facilities, or Higg FSLM. The initial self-assessment by The Lycra Company was then verified by an independent third party, the company said.
Three sites, those located in in Waynesboro, Virginia, Maydown, Northern Ireland, and Foshan, China, completed verification for the Higg FEM module, while the Maydown and Tuas, Singapore, sites have obtained confirmation of the Higg FSLM module.
The Lycra Company’s stated goal is that 80% of its Lycra fibre production be Higg FEM verified by next year.
“Our upstream and downstream customers are increasingly asking suppliers like us to provide independent certifications that assess the environmental impact of their facilities, as well as social and labour practices in the workplace,” commented Kok Beng Chew, head of operations for the Asia Pacific region.
