H1 results prompt talk of new cost-savings at Superdry

Apparel brand Superdry has reported sales revenues of £219.8 million for the first half of its current business year, the six-month period to October 28.

This figure represents a fall of 23.5% year on year.

The brand’s founder and chief executive, Julian Dunkerton, said: “This has clearly been a difficult period for Superdry. A challenging consumer retail market, set against a backdrop of macroeconomic uncertainty and some remarkably unseasonal weather conditions have all combined to weaken the financial performance of the group.”

In comments that it made in response to press speculation, Superdry confirmed it was working with advisors “to explore the feasibility of various material cost-saving options” to build on cost-saving initiatives it has already put in place.

It said it still had no certainty over which, if any, of the new options it would take forward. It said it aimed to achieve total savings of £40 million in this financial year.
