French biorecycler Carbios has partnered De Smet Engineers & Contractors, based in Belgium, in the construction of “the world’s first” polyester (PET) depolymerisation plant. 

The industrial-scale enzymatic recycling facility is due to become operational in Longlaville, France, next year. De Smet pledged the support of 70-plus staff to the project.

Carbios chief executive, Emmanuel Ladent, praised the contractor’s “excellent track record in the engineering and management of complex industrial projects and has extensive experience in water-based technologies.”

Carbios completed its acquisition of the land from Indorama Ventures on February 14.
