Calyx believes in greenhouse-grown cotton

The UK Fashion and Textile Association has highlighted the work of one of its members, Calyx Cotton, in reducing the amount of water needed to produce the fibre.
Based in the south of England, Calyx employs advanced, closed-loop greenhouse systems that use precision irrigation, humidity control and water recapture techniques, resulting in a total water usage of around 415 litres per kilogram of cotton.
By cultivating its cotton within controlled environments, Calyx has eliminated the need for chemical inputs such as pesticides.
Cristyn Bevan, co-founder of Calyx Cotton, said: “Our dedication to fine-tuning growing conditions, from selecting the right seed varieties to grow and ultimately breed from, to optimising our controlled climates, has enabled us to produce a cotton fibre that meets the highest quality standards.”
