Buyers club together to boost Circ production
Retailers Zalando, Everlane, Bestseller and Eileen Fisher and suppliers Birla Cellulose, Arvind and Foshan Chicley are working together in a bid to scale Circ’s lyocell fibre through a “pre-competitive strategy” called the The Fiber Club.

Circ’s technology breaks down polycotton textiles and converts it into cellulosic pulp, terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG).

Birla creates lyocell staple fibre from Circ’s cellulosic pulp and Arvind and Foshan make textiles using the fibre, which the brands will then integrate into collections.

By working together and offering bulk assurances, the brands will enable Circ's costs to be lower, said Katrin Ley from project backer Fashion for Good.

Everlane's director of sustainability, Katina Boutis, said: “Over the next year, we will work closely with our design and development teams, as well as suppliers, to bring products made of Circ Lyocell to fruition. Along the way, we will work through our R&D process to test, provide feedback, measure impacts, and incorporate the material into our designs in the long term.”
