Impacts of regenerative cotton confirmed
CottonConnect, a social purpose company based in London, has released its impact report for 2024 along with a life cycle assessment (LCA) for its regenerative cotton programme REEL.

The report found that the regenerative REEL programme helps farmers reduce the use of water (22%), chemical fertilisers (18%), and chemical pesticides (21%), while increasing yields (6%) and profit (26%), compared with control farmers, the organisation said. Analysis of the second year of this programme showed 41% less GHG emissions, again compared with control farms. The LCA thus confirms the benefit of regenerative farming for the environment and for the farmer, who can expect higher yields.

Last year, or rather season, the organisation said it had trained some 452,000 farmers in sustainable agricultural practices in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt and Turkey. More than 250,000 farmers received regenerative agriculture training, it said.

In 2024, one year ahead of schedule, CottonConnect was able to trace 100% of REEL Cotton, or 193,468 tonnes of lint cotton.
