Piura officials do pre-harvest field work with cotton farmers
Representatives of the regional government of Piura in north-western Peru have worked with cotton farmers in the immediate build-up to harvest of the new crop to help them achieve maximum efficiency and the highest prices.
Cotton growers met from the area around Catayos in mid-August and were urged by buyers and regional department of agriculture officials to wait until between 50% and 60% of bolls on a plant open up before beginning to harvest.
They said farmers should pick on fully mature bolls to keep the quality of the harvest high.
