Calik Denim adopts novel anti-odour technology
Last year German chemicals company Heraeus Precious Metals introduced AGXX, a novel antimicrobial finish for textiles and has now signed up its first partnerships. Turkey-based Çalik Denim is one of these, along with Swedish manufacturers Aux Corporate Fashion and Noms.

Unlike conventional antibacterial treatments that rely on the release of metal ions, AGXX’s solution is based on a catalytic mechanism. When exposed to humidity, the technology triggers a reaction between two metals, converting oxygen into reactive oxygen species (ROS). These ROS eliminate microorganisms by first breaking down their outer membranes, then targeting their organelles and DNA. The mechanism, a ‘circular redox system’, means that AGXX is not consumed but rather ‘continuously regenerated’.

The additive can be integrated into nylon and lyocell yarns or applied as a topical finish.  AGXX is also Eco Passport certified by Oeko-Tex.

For Çalik acting general manager Ibrahim Ethem Buyukpepe, “Choosing the right partners is key to advancing a more responsible and innovative textile industry”.
