The company has been working with Australian recycler Blocktexx and recently introduced buttons made from textile waste.
Another series of biodegradable buttons is made from a blend of polypropylene and co-polymer (50%) with bio-sourced content derived from taro waste (40%), and 10% auxiliaries. “The buttons can be totally degraded within 6-24 months by microorganisms buried in soil/landfill with suitable conditions. The product will not break down during normal use,” said Andrew Holland, Oletta sales manager.
The company also offers a wide array of yarns, elastics and trimmings made from biodegradable materials, including paper yarns. Several types of biodegradable labels are available, in either biodegradable polyester using CiCLO or GOTS-certified organic cotton.
Oletta has also developed two main elastic products to address a gap in the market. “The first is a synthetic option made of biodegradable polyester and raw rubber. The other is a natural base version being GOTS-certified organic cotton and raw rubber,” Mr Holland told Inside Denim.
