Portuguese brand expands in India
Denim brand Salsa Jeans, part of the Portugal-based Sonae retail group, has opened three new stores in India.
The new Salsa Jeans stores are in and around New Delhi, with one new store in the Indian capital and others in the nearby cities of Noida and Gurugram. It also has a presence in Bangalore and Mumbai.
These openings will take the brands total number of stores in India to nine little more than a year after its entry into the Indian market. It is working with a local partner, Lyskraft, to build up its footprint there.
In a statement, sales director of Salsa Jeans, João Martins, said the Indian market was of great interest to the brand. “Projections show that there will be 80 million middle-class families in India by 2030,” he said. “This means it will become one of the most dynamic markets in the world for the fashion sector. We are growing our operations there at a good pace, confirming our confidence in this market and in our partner.”
