Avalo welcomes new board member

03/03/2026
Crop innovation specialist Avalo has announced the arrival of a new board member, Michael Kobori. The former sustainability lead for Levi Strauss and Starbucks has also been a member of the Cotton Board and founding member of Better Cotton Initiative.

His experience in the world of cotton, which is Avalo’s most advanced crop, comes at the same time as it launches its first ‘Low-Carbon American cotton’ harvest. This variety is engineered to help fashion brands address their scope 3 emissions, while creating more value for farmers, Avalo said.

“We are using AI to rapidly accelerate the creation of sustainable crop varieties, including cotton and sugarcane at a pace and precision that hasn’t been possible before. But science alone doesn't build companies!” commented Tricia Carey, chief commercial officer, in a social media post, commending Michael Kobori's experience, strategic vision, and kindness.
