Berto partners Aquafil for performance
Italy-based denim maker Berto has teamed up with nylon specialist Aquafil for a collection of stretch denims that use Aquafil’s signature yarns, to add performance qualities.
The Dryarn helps to make a fabric with improved drying time, and Aquafil claims it is 34% lighter than polyester.
“We find our customers want to be comfortable across their busy days – when they are walking, going to the office or out on their monopattinos (motorised scooters),” Berto’s marketing manager, Francesca Polato, told sportstextiles.com.
The company recycles much of its own yarn waste into new fabrics, helped by local company Marchi & Fildi, which collects and shreds the yarns, so they can be spun again. A small percentage (depending on the fabric’s requirements) of virgin cotton is added to give strength.
“In the past, our pre-consumer waste went into home insulation, but now it all gets recycled back into the production.”
The company has also begun to blend cotton with wool for winter collections, and has a fabric dyed with natural indigo.
