Transformers ED to be virtual in October
The next edition of Transformers ED — the student- and consumer-facing educational denim conference organised by the Transformers Foundation — will be virtual, with three three-hour days held live on Zoom. Mohsin Sajid, owner and creative director of Endrime Studio, Denim History and Endrime, will be hosting each day. /p>
The event will take place from 3pm to 6pm CET on October 14, 15 and 16. The time, organisers said, is hoped to accommodate US students who want to watch it live.
Initially planned to be a day-long event exploring the environmental and social impacts of the denim supply chain, the expanded virtual event will include the following:
October 14 panels and presentations will look at the denim supply chain, including yarn, spinning and dyeing. Topics will include indigo history, how denim is made, a mini masterclasses on cotton, elastomeric, manmade cellulose and bast fibres.
October 15 will focus on sustainability and circularity in denim and jeans production. Speakers will look at the latest from the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the role of sustainability in denim fabric production, innovations in garment washing and processing and how designers can make sustainable choices during product development.
October 16 will focus on quality, creative design and career planning. This will include how to conduct research for inspiration and consumer insights, building a comprehensive tech pack, thinking about and designing quality garments, sustainable graphics, trend forecasting and the different roles a denim designer can fill in the denim industry.
Andrew Olah, founder of Transformers Foundation and Kingpins Show, said the goal is to “prepare students to enter our industry and hit the ground running with a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the jeans industry. If we want to change the future of the denim industry, we must equip the young professionals entering the industry with the best information and insight.”
