Denim brand wins circular fashion award

The metropolitan region of Lille in northern France has concluded the 2020 edition of a competition called the Circular Fashion Trophies with a denim brand picking up one of the prizes.

Twenty-seven finalists from all parts of France were in contention for six prizes, each worth up to €10,000 each. The categories comprised ‘promise’ awards for projects that are still in development, booster awards for projects that were launched less than one year ago and awards of honour for projects that have been on the market for more than one year.

In each case, there were separate prizes for small and for larger companies, with annual turnover of €2 million the threshold between the two.

The award of honour in the larger companies category went to denim brand 1083. Entrepreneur Thomas Huriez founded 1083 seven years ago based on a conviction that jeans production could return to France.

The company’s name comes from the fact that the most remote two points on the French mainland are 1,083 kilometres apart and that Mr Huriez’s company could, therefore, promise customers there that 1,083 kilometres was the furthest the product would be transported to reach them. He said this compared favourably with the industry average, which he puts at 65,000 kilometres.

His jeans are made from denim that is dyed, woven, finished and stitched on home soil.
