AGI targets platinum LEED certification for new mills
Karachi-based denim and jeans manufacturer AGI Denim is on course to achieve platinum LEED certification for its new spinning mill, currently being built on its campus and due to come on-stream in the middle of this year.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification provides verification of a building’s green attributes, and includes metrics such as energy savings, water efficiency, reduced CO2 emissions and improved indoor environment quality.

The expansion plans also include a LEED-certified denim mill which will be built later in the year, as well as a new effluent treatment plant, a new system for converting post-industrial waste, and a new jeans shredding facility. Phase two will double the spinning capacity by 2023.

“The industry has changed so rapidly – sustainability, traceability, these are no longer just buzz words – you need to take tangible steps and actions so you can be known as a responsible company,” executive director Hasan Javed told Inside Denim.
