US Cotton Trust Protocol welcomes China’s Advance Denim

China-based denim manufacturer Advance Denim - the oldest denim manufacturer in the country - recently joined the US Cotton Trust Protocol (Trust Protocol) as part of the former’s “ambitious” sustainability programme, a press release said.
Advance sought to provide its brand and retail partners with greater, verifiable supply chain transparency and so opted to source “more sustainable” US-grown fibre via the Trust Protocol.
The Trust Protocol gives fashion brands and retailers access to a credit system which validates consumption of cotton and contributes towards aggregating year-on-year data in six sustainability areas: water use, greenhouse gas emissions, energy use, soil carbon, soil loss and land use efficiency.
Trust Protocol President, Dr Gary Adams, who addressed Chinese cotton buyers during China Cotton Day back in November, commented: “Advance Denim is committed to playing a leading role in sustainable solutions for the denim industry and we are delighted to be supporting them in this ambition.
“Collaboration is key, as with each member that joins, we have greater resources to help provide tools and knowledge to not only help US growers improve their sustainability practices, but to also give more mills, manufacturers, brands and retailers the supply chain confidence they need.”
Board director and general manager of Advance Denim, Amy Wang, noted: “Working with the Trust Protocol will allow us to further our sustainability ambitions while providing an important competitive advance in a market increasingly focused on supply chain transparency, backed up by data and evidence.”
