US Cotton Trust Protocol now SAC member
Tennessee-based farm-level sustainability programme the US Cotton Trust Protocol (Trust Protocol) recently announced its membership of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), headquartered in San Francisco.
President of the Trust Protocol, Dr Gary Adams, commented: “During a time of ever-growing supply chain scrutiny, being a member of the SAC is further validation of how the US Cotton Trust Protocol is working to set a new standard in more sustainable cotton production.
“While our grower members have a long history of sustainable cotton growing practices, they understand the importance of continuous improvement and have committed to meeting bold sustainability targets by 2025.”
SAC executive director, Amina Razvi, added: “We welcome the addition of the US Cotton Trust Protocol to the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and look forward to its participation in this industry-wide effort in sustainability.
“Having the Trust Protocol as part of the SAC widens the scope of our impact within the industry and accelerates the change we’re making towards responsible industry actions.”
The Trust Protocol gives fashion brands and retailers access to a credit system which validates consumption of cotton and contributes towards aggregating year-on-year data in six “core” sustainability areas: land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions and energy efficiency.
As a SAC member, the Tennessee-headquartered organisation will provide a unique perspective from the US cotton industry, a press release said.
