PVH advances towards 'sustainable' cotton sourcing

Roughly a year since its initial launch, the US Cotton Trust Protocol (Trust Protocol), a voluntary farm-level sustainability programme designed to document US-based cotton farmers’ best management practices, has announced the membership of New York City-headquartered fashion group PVH Corp (PVH).
The business owns brands including Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.
Significantly, PVH has committed to “sustainably” source 100% of the cotton fibre it uses by 2025.
Chief sustainability officer at the company, Marissa Pagnani McGowan, explained: “Joining the Trust Protocol helps us move forward in reaching our sustainability goals and driving continuous improvements in sustainable cotton sourcing for our brands and at scale for the industry.
“This programme will enhance our ability to provide sustainable product offerings to our consumers.”
On behalf of the Trust Protocol, the organisation’s president, Dr Gary Adams, emphasised his pride in welcoming PVH as a new member and added that Trust Protocol membership could support the group in achieving a “verifiably sustainable supply” of cotton going forward.
According to the cotton body, more than 450 mills, brands, retailers and manufacturers have joined its programme since it launched roughly a year ago. It recently announced a series of six live grower enrolment webinars, scheduled to take place over the remainder of the year (register here).
Separately, PVH recently reported a year-on-year rise of 46% (or 40% on a constant currency basis) in its revenues for the second quarter of 2021, also stating that its international business performance “significantly” exceeded 2019 pre-covid-19 pandemic levels.
