The COP Ness Monster shows circular design isn’t a myth
Dutch brand Mud Jeans contributed the denim for a sculpture unveiled in London aiming to raise awareness of climate change during the COP26 conference.

Messy the COP Ness Monster is made from steel, plywood, wire mesh and 800 old pairs of jeans, made in collaboration with WaterBear, a streaming platform dedicated to climate documentaries.

Mud Jeans said: “With skin made from recycled jeans, she is proof that, unlike the Loch Ness Monster, there is nothing mythical about the positive impact circular design can have on the fashion industry.”

The company invited people to visit Messy in Grosvenor Square throughout COP26, from 29 October to 11 November. “Bring your old jeans and we'll recycle them for you.”

Mud will also take part in IKEA’s exhibition at the New York Times Climate Hub in Glasgow showing case studies and solutions across its value chain, and will feature in the COP26 online workshop ‘How can global fashion save the planet?’

The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is the 26th United Nations Climate Change conference. It is being held in Glasgow, Scotland.
