Dutch denim brand Mud Jeans has boosted its B-Corp score by more than 35 points in three years, making it one of the top Benefit Corporations in the Netherlands.

To be classed as a B Corps, a company must meet strict criteria in areas such as social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance “profit and purpose”.

It must score at least 80 points on a scale from 0 to 200 and repeat the assessment every three years.

Mud Jeans has completed the assessment for a third time and has a score of 124.7 – up from 87.7 in 2017.

Mud founder Bert van Son said: “Through this assessment, we have also been able to identify new improvement targets that we hope to integrate in the coming years, such as increasing our use of renewable energy.”

There are 3,500 companies in countries that are B Corps. In the Netherlands there are 88.

“I would not have dared to dream eight years ago that after eight years of trial and error and circular entrepreneurship we would make it to the top five best B Corps in the Netherlands,” added Mr van Son.
