Beijing officially recognises EMF as an NGO
UK-based circular economy charity the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (EMF) has announced that its Beijing office recently obtained official registration as an international non-governmental organisation (NGO) in China by Beijing Public Security Bureau.
By having its China operations recognised in this way, EMF expressed that it will now not only be able to scale its work, but also more effectively partner with local stakeholders and make greater progress towards its overall mission: to hasten the global transition over to a circular economy.
Moving forward, the foundation will be guided in these efforts by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
“This important milestone will enable us to work even more closely with our Chinese partners and contribute to a better dialogue on the global stage,” the foundation’s executive lead for institutions, governments and cities, Jocelyn Blériot, said.
EMF’s chief representative in China, Yisong Guan, added: “With the Chinese government announcing its carbon neutrality target [in September 2020], the circular economy will gain an even higher position on the political agenda.
“Building on this momentum, the foundation will continue to work with its international and Chinese partners to help accelerate China’s transition towards a circular economy.”
The charity has been actively working alongside partners in China since 2017. It said that it looked forward to supporting the country on its path to becoming an “ecological civilisation” through the implantation of "circular economy solutions".
