Monki reveals Jeans Redesign capsule
H&M brand Monki, based in Stockholm, has debuted denim jeans and jackets made in line with Jeans Redesign principles, a flagship initiative of circular-economy charity the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

Blended from 80% in-conversion cotton and 20% post-consumer recycled cotton, polyester threads more typical of the brand have been replaced by Lenzing’s EcoVero viscose and metal rivets have been superseded by bar tacks. Each article’s aluminium buttons have been manufactured in a way which requires no electroplating.

The capsule, set for an August release, features three already popular jean styles – the high-waisted, wide-legged Yoko; the slim-fit Monokomi; and the ankle-length, tapered-leg Taiki – plus a classic denim trucker jacket.

Head of design at Monki, Caroline Carlryd, commented that the team had “looked into every detail” and that the collection was “just the beginning”. The wider H&M group seeks to design all products for circularity by 2025.
