Irish Alzheimer’s charity launches denim day
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, based in Dublin, recently launched its Denim Day for Dementia 2022 campaign after being forced to cancel the five-year-old event last year on account of covid-19.

This year’s event, sponsored by Japanese multinational Fujitsu, is currently set to go ahead on March 4, with the express aim to raise funds in support of Ireland’s 64,000 dementia sufferers and their carers.

The awareness-raising media campaign is fronted by former Dancing with the Stars professional performer and choreographer Pasquale La Rocca (pictured), who won the fourth series of the Irish version of the television show alongside radio broadcaster Lottie Ryan in 2020.

Two of Mr La Rocca’s grandparents passed away from dementia last year, he said, commenting: “My grandparents were my biggest influences and supporters - my grandpa used to take me to rehearsals and competitions - so to get behind this worthy campaign is special to me.

“Each year, over 11,000 people develop dementia [in Ireland]. That’s at least 30 people every day and anyone can get dementia - even people in their thirties, forties and fifties. I would encourage everyone to support this campaign by registering for their Denim Day for Dementia pack.”

Registration for official denim day packs (which include posters, stickers, coin collection boxes and an accompanying how-to guide) can be completed here

The social media hashtag for the campaign will be #denimday4dementia.
