BGMEA president Faruque Hassan said the clothing industry had made tremendous strides over the past years to integrate sustainability, and wishes to provide consumers with eco-friendly apparel.
He added that the industry was looking to shift away from traditional cotton and that hemp could be a perfect complement fibre.
Industrial hemp is a regenerative crop due to its ability to grow with little water, minimal-to-no pesticides and herbicides, and has a high yield.
Last year, Pakistan-based mill and manufacturer AGI Denim signed a deal with Panda Biotech to form a global production partnership, and Kontoor also deepened its relationship with Panda, with the aim of bringing denim made with US grown hemp to market by next year.
