Sales coup for Karl Mayer

German machinery manufacturer Karl Mayer has revealed Egyptian denim supplier Lotustex and Taiwanese mill Nien Hsing Textile are the first-ever purchasers of its Link-Matic system and Greendye technology, respectively.

Hesse-based Karl Mayer described Link-Matic as capable of boosting productivity by 30%, thanks to its simplified and automated batch change process for both indigo and sizing machines. Only a single operator is needed to prepare the warper beams for Link-Matic, it said, adding that the equipment can prevent the generation of up to 600 metres of unusable yarn material per batch during indigo dyeing.

Separately, Greendye (pictured), developed by denim division Karl Mayer Rotal in Italy, convinced its buyer of its viability thanks to demonstrably improved “output, costs and sustainability,” as Nien Hsing Textile chairman, John Chen, put it.

According to its manufacturer, Greendye is twice as clean and three times more efficient than conventional equipment, due to the use of Nox nitrogen technology to temporarily delay oxidation. This method subsequently allows more time for dyestuff to diffuse, bond and fix to the fibre composite. As Greendye also allows for an intensified concentration of indigo in the dye bath, the yarn is able to absorb three times as much dye than with traditional methods, the company explained, while only three dye baths (as opposed to the more typical nine) are needed, helping to significantly reduce water usage.

With less dye baths, there are also reduced dyeing sections, resulting in less yarn wastage.

Both machines are expected to be delivered in November.
