Gap secures Indian retail partner

The plan is to capture the hearts of local shoppers through a combination of both own-brand and multi-brand retail spaces, as well as listing on e-commerce platforms, the Indian company said.
“We pride ourselves in bringing the latest and best to our customers and we are happy to announce the addition of iconic American brand Gap to our fashion and lifestyle portfolio,” commented chief executive of Reliance Retail’s fashion and lifestyle division, Akhilesh Prasad.
On behalf of Gap’s parent company, Gap Inc, managing director of international, global licensing and wholesale, Adrienne Gernand, contextualised the development as part of a wider strategy to grow the brand through a partner-based model with “regional experts” in “key international markets”, such as Reliance Retail in India.
Gap recommenced bricks-and-mortar retail in the UK and Ireland by opening a London shop-in-shop alongside local retail partner Next back in March. This followed a particularly tough period for the brand, which closed 86 European retail stores alone in 2021.
