PureDenim endorses novel D(y)ENIM dyeing process

D(y)ENIM, a new, ultrasound-based yarn dyeing technology, will be installed at PureDenim. A premium denim manufacturer based in Italy, near Milan, and headed by Luigi Caccia, PureDenim is well-known for its focus on low impact technologies.

Developed by Sonovia, a textile tech start-up based in Israel, the novel dyeing process is 100% hydrosulfite-free and is said to bring the number of baths down to three or four, and only one or two for indigo. The ultrasound-based technology is furthermore said to reduce yarn waste in production and eliminate the need for energy- and water-intensive waste management processes. It is believed that the dyestuff can be recycled and an R&D project will be launched this year to investigate how the loop can be closed in indigo dyeing.

PureDenim and Sonovia have been working together for the past 12 months on developing and scaling up D(y)ENIM. They intend to present the technology to mid and upper market brands and expect the first products to be available in 2024.

PureDenim CEO Luigi Caccia commented: “The D(y)ENIM technology has the potential to revolutionise our industry like nothing else that we have seen to date. This revolution is at a scale of what digital printing has done to the traditional printing industry.”
