PureDenim features Spider silk denim

17/12/2025
Italian denim mill PureDenim focused on two innovations at PV Denim last month. Company manager Luigi Caccia mentioned Sonovia’s ultrasound-based dyeing and finishing technology, which the company helped finetune, as one area of positive evolution. He is now hoping that other denim mills will make a similar switch to the low impact and highly efficient process.

PureDenim is developing denim fabrics with AMSilk, showing several samples at the show in Milan. One item, 12-ounce denim, was made with a cotton warp and an AMSilk weft, exhibiting a subtle sheen. The biotech protein fibre is slowly scaling up production and expects to be able to bring down costs, Lucille Wepierre, in charge of fibre applications, told Inside Denim. She said the fibre and yarns are currently produced in Europe. Evonik produces the silk proteins in a facility in Slovakia and Indorama spins them into yarns.
