Levi’s CEO to keep ‘profits through principles’ promise

New Levi Strauss & Co chief executive, Michelle Gass, has promised the company’s employees that she will lead with transparency, listen and learn from them, and foster a culture in which their ideas and contributions will “make an impact”.

On her first day in the role, January 30, Ms Gass sent a message to all employees to say she would keep Levi Strauss & Co’s values “front and centre” in her work, and, stay true to the company’s commitment to “profits through principles”.

She added: “This means supporting our sustainability efforts, our diversity, equity and inclusion work, and our engagement and advocacy on the social issues that matter most to our employees and communities. These are hallmarks of who we are as a company, and they serve as a source of pride and a compass for us all.”

A former chief executive of the Kohl’s retail chain, Michelle Gass moved to Levi’s in 2022. She worked first as brand president, but the denim brand said from the outset that she would take over from Chip Bergh as chief executive within 18 months.
