Cotton Inc pushes recycling initiative for jeans’ anniversary
Cotton Incorporated has reiterated its message to recycle jeans, through its Blue Jeans Go Green initiative, to mark the 151st anniversary of the birth of blue jeans (the first patent) on May 20.

Since its inception in 2006, the programme has found uses for jeans that cannot be repaired or recycled, for instance providing insulation for 2,000 homes in the US.

Over 5.2 million pieces of denim have been recycled through the programme, according to the not-for-profit funded by US cotton growers.

Andrea Samber, director of brand partnerships at Cotton Inc, said: "The invention of blue jeans marked a pivotal moment in the history of fashion.

"From their humble beginnings as functional work attire to becoming a global fashion staple, blue jeans have captured the imagination of people across generations and cultures."
