Cotton Incorporated seeks to spread knowledge about plastics pollution

16/07/2025

Cotton Incorporated, a not-for-profit organisation funded by US cotton growers, has launched a resource hub designed to spread awareness of plastic pollution from textiles.

The resource on CottonToday.com includes studies comparing the biodegradability of natural fibres like cotton versus synthetic alternatives; tips on reducing plastic pollution through fibre choices; and insights into how cotton decomposes in soil and water.

Jesse Daystar, chief sustainability officer at Cotton Incorporated, said: “As ongoing research continues to uncover the full impact of synthetic microfibres on our bodies and environment, we must take immediate action using the effective solutions available today, and cotton is clearly one of them.

“This hub provides clear, credible information on the impacts of our fibres choices and empowers both supply chains and consumers to adopt solutions like switching to natural fibres, reducing plastic contamination in our environment and in our bodies.”
