Excitement builds around Ian Berry’s first Turkish exhibition

Visitors have flocked to view Ian Berry’s denim artworks at his first exhibition in Turkey, taking place at Kalyon Kültür cultural centre in Istanbul.

‘Beyond Denim’ consists of some of his most well-known works, including Hotel California, Denim Legends and Behind Closed Doors.

Working only with denim, his catalogue of work also features the Secret Garden, which has wowed visitors around the world. Pakistani mill and manufacturer AGI Denim has supplied material for the cascading trellis and ‘koi carp’. Henry Wong, AGI vice-president of marketing and product development, said: “We are honoured to continue being the appointed denim and finishing technology partner for Ian Berry. If Ian's work were love letters to denim, our materials would be the pen and paper he wrote them with.”

The exhibition also includes a new piece showing the connections between the Chinese Zodiac as well as a tiled wall representing Turkish ceramics.

Mr Berry said: “It’s been so nice to meet so many people who are kind and positive about my work.”

The exhibition has been well publicised, with billboards across the city and at the airport, as well as features in Turkey’s national press.

Beyond Denim is due to run until February 14, but could be extended due to its popularity.
