Outlast weaves its way into jeans
Outlast, the maker of a thermoregulating material, has worked with AGI Denim to integrate the high-tech cooling and warming system into jeans. The solution that was deemed best was to embed the natural wax directly into fibres before weaving, this, said Outlast, makes it possible to retain the “rugged authenticity and durability denim is known for”.

The main challenge, the company said, was to ensure that the temperature-regulating effect would withstand typical denim production washing and finishing treatments. The additive will not wash out or diminish over time, the company said, as it is not a surface treatment.

AGI Denim included the novel thermoregulating fabric in its TomorrowLab innovation platform as part of its investigation into ‘Future Functions’, which was on show at Kingpins last week.

In warm conditions, an Outlast denim fabric will absorb excess body heat and store it, helping to reduce sweating, and in cooler temperatures, the stored warmth will gradually be released.
