Fabric find means Hiut can offer more Tech Jeans

Welsh jeansmaker Hiut is offering a limited-edition run of its Tech jeans, made with fabric from Calik in Turkey that includes 37.5 thermoregulation technology from US-based Cocona.

The technology uses active particles from volcanic minerals and activated carbon is made from coconut shells.

It is infused into fibres and filaments to reduce the heat index (the mix of temperature and humidity), according to the company, and also offers odour control.

Hiut had previously made a collection with this fabric, and found an extra roll – enough to make 70 pairs – during a stock take.

Hiut co-founder David Hieatt said “We took the things that we loved about the old Tech Jeans and made them better. We took the things we hated about the old Tech Jeans and ditched them.”

The fabric is 54% cotton, 23% recycled polyester, 20% recycled cotton and 3% Lycra.

“Like Marmite, the Tech Jean is not for everyone,” added Mr Hieatt. “But also, like Marmite, those who love it really love it.”
