Levi’s programme supports transition to green energy
With Schneider Electric, an energy management company, Levi Strauss has set up a programme to help its suppliers access renewable electricity. The programme, LS&Co. Energy Accelerator Program, or LEAP, is taking its first steps in India.

LEAP draws on Schneider Electric’s network and expertise, and intends to offer Levi Strauss suppliers “the best available pricing, terms and return on investment” from renewable energy sourcing. Among the solutions offered, mills and manufacturers that join LEAP will also be able to purchase certificates or install solar panels on site, on an individual basis, or join multi-buyer cohorts in a power purchase agreement (PPA). Levi Strauss itself tested the concept in the US as one of five Walmart suppliers to group their energy procurement from a wind farm in Kansas. This was part of a Walmart Gigaton PPA, launched with EDF in 2017, and which is now the model for grouped purchasing among LEAP members.

The jeans brand has set a supply chain emission reduction target of 42% by 2030 (taking 2022 as the baseline year). Its longer-term goal is to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
