Start-up support programme includes HMS in new cohort
Singapore-based start-up mentorship programme The Amplifier has included developer of pumice alternative Hand Made Stone (HMS) in a new cohort of companies it will support.
In total, 95 companies applied to become part of the The Amplifier this year; it picked four, including HMS.
The programme’s aim is to bring together philanthropists, investors and industry leaders to tackle “Asia’s most pressing sustainability challenges”.
Over the next 12 months, as part of the new cohort, HMS will have access to mentorship, commercial opportunities, business and legal advice, digital tools and physical resources such as co-working spaces and wet labs.
This support is designed to help early-stage companies “overcome the notorious valley of death”, The Amplifier said. This is a reference to the difficult period between a new company’s start of operations and its ability to generate enough revenue to be self-sustainable.
HMS founder, Beyza Baykan, said: “Our mission has always been to prove that denim can be beautiful without being destructive. Being part of The Amplifier validates the urgent need for sludge-free, water-saving solutions in fashion and gives us the platform to scale faster.”
