Red Cotton Denim launches Kickstarter campaign for custom jeans
Having provided a limited number of customers with custom jeans for several years, Red Cotton Denim is now developing the technology to serve a broader customer base.

To do this, founder Camillo Love (pictured) has launched a Kickstarter campaign to create online customised jeans using what he said are century-old tailoring techniques while modernising the process.

"The fashion industry mass produces clothing, using a standardized sizing system to provide an adequate fit for most people,” said Mr Love. “This method results in not only poor-fitting clothing but tremendous waste and harm in the process.”

Jeans are made using Cone Mills 12-ounce fabric. He said he wants to continue hand-making jeans while expanding the capacity to craft more. Since launching his brand, Mr Love has hand sewn every pair of Red Cotton jeans. Customers have included himself who, at 6’4, requires customised jeans, and famous American basketball player Shaquille O'Neal.

With money raised through the campaign, the company plans to hire more employees; Mr Love will work with Ready One Industries, an organisation that provides employment opportunities for individuals with significant disabilities.

“This will help me reach not only my dream of custom-made jeans but also my heartfelt commitment to nurturing self-determination and success in individuals with disabilities," Mr Love said.

Mr Love said working directly with the customer online eliminates 60% of the average retail mark up.
