First Jeans Redesign Hilfiger collection launched

Clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger has launched jeans and jackets that it has made in keeping with the Jeans Redesign project. In 2019, the company pledged its support for Jeans Redesign, a circular-economy project launched by non-profit group the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.
The new garments are the first Tommy Hilfiger garments to come out of the project and it has adopted the Jeans Redesign name for the collection.
Jeans and jackets in the collection are made to be more durable and recyclable, two critical components in creating a circular economy.
This was achieved by “rethinking the design of the jeans according to circular principles”, Tommy Hilfiger said, including using detachable buttons, the replacement of metal rivets with bar tacks, the removal of all metal zippers and use of 100% organic fabric.
To increase durability of the products, each piece features wash and care instructions on the pockets, along with advice to repair, donate or recycle the product after use.
Chief executive, Martijn Hagman, said: “We have a responsibility to drive the transition to a circular economy and we are proud to work alongside the Ellen MacArthur Foundation to achieve this. This is just one step on our path to creating fully circular products.”
