Arket launches ‘one-of-a-kind’ reclaimed denim pieces

H&M group-owned “modern-day market and lifestyle destination” Arket has launched what it has described as a “circular” denim collection, Patchwork Denim, using reclaimed vintage denim fabric from its recycling programme with I:CO (or I:Collect). I:CO operates in-store take-back systems for used textiles and clothing.

Each reused denim garment is washed and sorted before being cut up into patches and sewn together to form large sheets of irregular fabric shapes, Arket said. The resultingly tactile patchwork denim sheets are then used instead of conventional fabric rolls.

Due to this “unique” manufacturing process, each item produced (including bags, hats, apparel and homewear accessories) is therefore “one-of-a-kind”, the retailer noted.

“By repurposing already existing materials that have been discarded, we were able to create new garments while leaving out the resource-intensive process of producing virgin fibres,” Arket explained.

Denim’s workwear heritage was central to the idea behind the design process, the brand added, as denim pieces have frequently been mended and patched over throughout their lifespan, particularly in the past.
