Artistic Milliners creates ‘circular park’ to boost recycled content
Pakistan-based denim mill and garment maker Artistic Milliners is building a 70,000 square foot ‘circular park’ that will house a large waste sorting and shredding facility, built in collaboration with French engineering firm Laroche.

It will be the central collection point for its hard and soft waste and will enable it to boost its offerings of recycled fabrics, with an ultimate goal to add 20% recycled content to all material.

Speaking at Kingpins 24 Flash, Artistic Milliners’ CEO Omer Ahmed said recycled fibres could be the best option when it comes to sustainability.

He said: “If you look at the sustainable fibres on offer today, there are some issues: organic cotton can be expensive and there are difficulties with supply, cottonised hemp can be hard to mix and is also not cheap, the new regenerated cellulose fibres are also in short supply and recycled polyester is still polyester based.

“We think there is nothing better than post-industrial and post-consumer material as it reduces waste, gives a smaller carbon footprint and it is a relatively inexpensive option, which it makes it a winner in the long term.”
