Closed to release ‘world’s first completely degradable stretch denim’

Italian denim brand Closed recently revealed that it will be releasing a “world first” next month.
Namely, “completely degradable” women and men’s stretch denim jeans and jackets, “handcrafted” by Italian denim mill Candiani using both organic cotton and its Coreva yarn (“the world’s first biodegradable stretch yarn”).
“Eco-friendly” Coreva, which is made from natural rubber, can decompose in compost “after about six months”, without leaving behind any microplastic residue or chemical emissions, Closed said in a press release.
Other elements of the capsule garments, such as buttons and studs, have also been designed with “natural versions from cellulose origins” in mind. Explicitly, zips and metal buttons have been replaced by vegetable corozo buttons, dyed with indigo pigments of plant origin, while studs have been sewn on with Tencel (a wood-based cellulosic fibre) thread.
Furthermore, the Closed logo has been lasered onto the denim, as opposed to the use of a leather patch, while the fabric labels are made from “degradable” Vinatur (consisting of a blend of cellulosic wood fibres and fibres made from synthetic polymers) and the care label created using organic cotton.
All printing has been done with “natural pigments” and “environmentally friendly” dyeing and washing methods - “to save water, chemicals and electricity” - have been used throughout.
The capsule collection has been designed to last “for years to come”, Closed said.
