New project will allow Tejidos Royo to make Europe’s lowest-impact denim

Between now and September, Spanish fabric producer Tejidos Royo will work with textile technology company Tailorlux to produce low-carbon denim.

Launched in Germany in 2009, Tailorlux provides authentication and traceability solutions, helping textile producers and clothing brands achieve transparency and authenticity in their value chains.

For this project, Tejidos Royo will use newly harvested, high-quality cotton grown in Spain, taking delivery of the bales by mid-September. Using locally sourced cotton is what will make the denim it produces as part of this project low-impact.

Tailorlux’s role will be to provide a polymer or viscose marker fibre that, combined with blockchain technology and artificial intelligence, will allow this cotton to be traced throughout the supply chain.

Tejidos Royo will use its Dry Indigo foam dyeing technology to dye the fabric. The end result, it has said, will be Europe’s lowest-impact denim fabric.
