Dialogue: Hiro Yoshikawa, Washi Jeans
The founder of Washi Jeans has, after 21 years of research and fabric development, launched new collections of jeans that incorporate Japanese washi paper.

Hiro Yoshikawa has spent three decades in the denim industry, and was determined to offer something different.

His family’s long experience working with washi paper, through a saki-making business, helped him to understand the properties and how to use them to create a yarn.

In a conversation with denim consultant Ikeme Eshemokhai, he explains how his Washi Jeans brand came about and how he wants to pass on the love of handmade denim to younger generations.
