Vaccination programme begins at Tusuka Denim

Local media have reported that at least 10,000 garment workers from four Gazipur, Bangladesh-based factories have been vaccinated against covid-19 since a vaccine rollout began in the locality on July 18.

The four participating factories are Tusuka Denim (where the rollout was inaugurated), Tusuka Trousers, Sparrow Apparels and Rose Sweaters.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president, Faruque Hassan (pictured), was present at the denim factory to witness the start of the programme, alongside Gazipur mayor, Mohammad Jahangir Alam and Bangladesh country manager for British multinational retailer Marks and Spencer, Shwapna Bhowmick, among other leading local figures.

Mr Hassan reportedly expressed his gratitude towards Bangladeshi prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, for prioritising the vaccination of the country’s garment workers during the event.
