AAFA-approved denim safety guide now in Mandarin
The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) has published a newly translated set of open-industry health and safety guidelines for denim finishing workers in Mandarin (or Putonghua) Chinese.
The Washington, DC-based body said that the guidance has been designed to help reduce the risk of injuries and illnesses in denim finishing, in tandem with local laws and regulations.
Senior vice president of policy at the AAFA, Nate Herman, commented: “This guide is a supplement that can be used by denim finishing facilities to enhance health and safety practices and reduce risks to their workers and their organisation. Our hope is that this translation will help move the needle forward in a region that supplies more than 15% of US denim imports.”
AAFA explained that it intends to translate the same document into Bangla, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese over the next few months. This would enable the document to be read in the first language of countries that together make up almost two-thirds of all US denim imports.
