Aisles buzzing as Denim Première Vision kicks off in Milan

Trade show Denim Première Vision has opened its doors in Milan, the first time in two years that the event has been held physically.

The stands and aisles are busy with visitors holding meetings with the mills, manufacturers and auxiliary companies, showing their latest products for spring-summer 2023.

Some of the trends for the season were discussed by PV’s denim fashion specialist, Manon Mangin.

One of the themes will be denim inspired by sportswear, with knit constructions or elasticised waists; or by spas and saunas, with lightweight fabrics and a very soft hand feel. Consumers will be expecting comfort and a relaxed look so we will see more lyocell blends or blends with linen and hemp, she said.

Patchwork styles will give a second life to old fabrics, enabling mills to use deadstock, or will be made with recycled fibres.

There will be more 100% cotton styles as end-of-life becomes more important, with blends being harder to break down.

Natural dyes and earth tones are gaining ground, as companies have discovered how to make them fast and work for larger volumes; she also sees undyed fabric becoming an option as people increasingly opt for sustainable alternatives.

There will be “return to 2000”, with embellishments, shiny accents and girly styles, with denim mini-skirts making a comeback.

The standout product she highlighted was from Pakistani mill Rajby – an undyed organic cotton fabric with colourful embroidery, It was the first to receive the Cradle to Cradle platinum standard, and was made using energy from solar power.

PV Denim is also hosting a digital event from October 10 to 15, with trends seminars held online.

An extended catalogue of exhibitors’ products can be found online on the Premiere Vision Marketplace.
