“This is a special season. We are living in a hyperconnected world but we’re looking for connectivity and empathy,” she said, adding that this will translate into five distinct trends categories.
The first is ‘Leisurewell’, a combination of leisure and wellness, with key words including ‘working from home’. It will feature calming colours, relaxed mood, loungewear, pyjama-like comfort, drawstring and elastic waists and sizeless products. “Wellbeing is a fundamental value and we appreciate it more than before. We need to protect ourselves for a healthy world,” she explained.
Next is ‘Creatorya’, a vintage look featuring tie-dye, craft enhanced by digital, multi-coloured prints and indigos with several washes. “This shows how denim is evolving. There is a regeneration and an infusion of new energy. Collaborations are important,” she said.
‘Blue Rise’ is about natural and light earth tones, biodegradable and circular materials, and pastel colours using recycled fibres, jute, hemp and nettle. Fabrics will be fresh and light, using cellulosic fibres, with greens, pale blue and lavender, and leaf and flower prints. “We are searching for an emersion into nature. We need a circularisation and a new consciousness. ‘Slowbalisation’ will be the key word.”
‘Humanet’ references the impact of the pandemic and how it has altered the way we communicate. “We can create virtual collections produced with avatars, taking less time and reducing waste.” The designs will be genderless, featuring bright colours, shiny surfaces, futuristic graphics and geometric shapes.
The final trend that Meidea sees is ‘Elemental’, a minimalist and functional trend focusing on high quality and longevity. The key looks are based on the ideas of raw linen, ash white, flower prints with laser, a pure shape, embroidery, indigo layers and stripes.
