Citizens of Humanity supports regenerative cotton
US-based Citizens of Humanity Group is expanding its sustainable cotton resources to include regenerative cotton. It has decided to back a regenerative agriculture programme known as ‘regenagri’ set up by UK-based certification organism Control Union.

Specifically, the denim and fashion group has chosen to support the Hardwick Planting Company, an 8,000-acre farm located in Louisiana and founded in 1986 by Jay Hardwick.

The contract includes an agreement that Citizens of Humanity pay a premium for cotton grown on the farm in return for Hardwick Planting Company applying regenerative techniques. These methods can cover various practices such as reduced tillage, cover cropping, rotating crops and can help increase carbon sequestration, biodiversity and soil health.

This contract makes Hardwick Planting Company the first regenagri-certified farm in the United States.

Based in Huntington Park, California, the apparel group owns three brands: Citizens of Humanity, Agolde and Goldsign.
