Botter wins 2022 ANDAM Award
‘Caribbean Couture’ menswear label Botter, helmed by design duo Lisi Herrebrugh, born in Amsterdam, and Rushemy Botter, born on Curaçao and raised in the Netherlands, won the prestigious ANDAM Award for 2022. It comes with a €300,000 grant and mentorships with ANDAM-founding company Galeries Lafayette, and leading sponsors Mytheresa, Instagram and Google.

This is not a first for the talented team who won several awards for their masters’ collection from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, including the Dries Van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester Awards and the Festival d’Hyères Grand Prix in 2018.

The label’s manifesto focuses on social and environmental sustainability, which guides its fabric choices and partnerships. Botter has participated in the creation of a coral reef farm on Curaçao. It is also a Parley for the Oceans partner and has pledged to increase the proportion of ocean waste plastic materials in its products to 80%, with the remaining 20% made up of natural fibres. The young brand keeps its carbon footprint low by working with garment manufacturers located in Spain and in Portugal.

In its thank you post on Instagram, Botter declared: “We believe in the future of fashion where technology and new materials are leading and emotion and story-telling are vital. Designing for the future in collaboration with nature.”

Sustainability is also top of agenda at the ANDAM. The Paris-based organisation awarded EverDye its 2022 Fashion Innovation Award, which comes with a €70,000 grant. This French start-up is developing a dyeing process using a biosourced pigment that promises to be fast, efficient and petrochemical-free.
